Cariboo Diaries

Only when you leave and come home again do you truly learn to fly.

Nature: People, pets and photography

When I think of my childhood, I remember fields overflowing with clover, butterflies, bees, birds and bugs. Dust coating my hair as I sat in the back of a pick-up truck heading to town. Thirty years later, the bees and butterflies are scarce but the bugs are still here. I didn’t think mosquitos liked me. I was wrong.

Garden: Wins, woes and whatnots

Planting a garden is harder than it seems, especially when your yard is full of burdock and tall grasses and other weeds that have propagated out of control. Armed with a new spade, a machete and a scythe, I’m reading to tackle the Earth.

Bounty: Bees, books and bicycles

Follow me as I learn to care for honeybees, explore books and write stories, do weird things like crochet wasps nets (do they even work?!) and slowly experience mountain biking in the beautiful Cariboo.

About Us

After 30 years in the city, I have returned to the Cariboo, to a wild overgrown, beautiful acre in 108 Mile Ranch. My life is full on, as I tend two cats, a fledgling garden and a pair of honeybee hives. Living sustainably I’ve found is harder than it looks but easier than it seems – and it turns out, you can go home again.
